Wire thread insert is a new type of internal thread fastener. It is a spring-shaped concentric component with internal and external threads, precisely manufactured from cold-rolled stainless steel wire with diamond cross-section featuring high strength, high precision and smooth surface. It is mainly used to reinforce and protect internal threads of low-strength materials. Its working principle is to create an elastic connection between the screw and the base internal thread, eliminate thread machining errors and improve connection strength. Wire thread inserts are divided into free-running type and locking type. The locking type is equipped with one or more locking coils based on the free-running version, which can lock the assembled screw to prevent loosening. When embedded into threaded holes of low-strength engineering materials including aluminum, magnesium alloy, cast iron, fiberglass and plastic, wire thread inserts can form high-precision internal threads conforming to international standards. They feature high connection strength, excellent shock resistance, impact resistance and wear resistance. Besides, they disperse stress to protect substrate threads and greatly extend the service life of workpieces. In addition, wire thread inserts can be adopted for repairing stripped or damaged original threads without scrapping the entire base part, featuring convenient, fast and cost-efficient maintenance. Special taps and installation tools are required for mounting wire thread inserts.
