Wire Thread Insert (typo correction: Wire Thread Insert), referred to as thread insert for short, is a new type of internal thread fastener. It is wound from high-strength, high-precision, corrosion-resistant steel wire with diamond-shaped cross-section and superior surface finish, shaped like a spring with an installation tang at one end.
With special installation tools, the insert is screwed into the designated threaded hole of the base material by pulling the tang. The outer surface of the insert closely fits the hole wall through elastic tension, while its inner surface forms a brand-new standard thread for screws or bolts to fasten. This separates the fastener from the base substrate, effectively protecting both the base material and the bolt/screw.
When applied to low-strength metal substrates such as aluminum and magnesium alloys, it significantly boosts thread tensile strength and wear resistance. It also optimizes the stress distribution of threads to realize uniform load bearing across the whole thread profile and enhance the overall connection strength. Besides new assembly, it can also repair worn or damaged internal threaded holes.
